Welcome to the Summer – it is here!
Over the next weeks many of us (including me) will find ourselves traveling or taking opportunity to rest, reflect, vacation, and “just be.” With a little extra mental bandwidth (away from some of the busyness with our regular schedules), I’d like to invite us to be intentional in ways we strive to deepen our faith.
In this upcoming series of articles, I hope these reflections will equip readers to deepen their relationship with Christ, cultivate their faith, and live out their discipleship in practical ways during the summer months. The first question for us is, “How are you following Jesus as the ultimate guide?” Do you think of Jesus as a guide? How do you know if you’re on the right path or moving in the right direction? What does it look like and feel like?
In many instances and scriptural references, Jesus is referred to as the “Light of the World.” In what ways does your relationship with God “light” your path? For me, there have been many “everyday” instances where I didn’t know what to do, and I felt like God was steering me toward a person, conversation, or decision. In other areas, there have been big decisions like, “Where do I go to college? What should I study? Who should I marry? Should I go to seminary? Is God calling me to be a pastor? Is God really calling me to move to South Dakota?”
In all of these instances, I felt like the Holy Spirit provided me with a “feeling”/leading/guiding/sense of peace. Do you have similar experiences?
During these summer months, there are extra opportunities to explore ways we can walk in the light of Christ in our daily lives. Prayer, spending time with other Christians, and reading the Bible are obvious examples. When we spend time with God in prayer and scripture, we get to know God more closely. We get to understand God’s priorities better and we get to share with others what God wants, cares about, and offers. This can be good news for others AND for ourselves.
As you find yourself with time this Summer, I invite you to seek Jesus as your guiding light and then share the stories. We are in this adventure together.
Very truly,
Pastor Adam
