Living Out Love in Action

When I was little, my primary image of faith, religion, and God included the stone tablets of the “10 Commandments.” For me, God was kind of like Santa Claus—making a list of who had been “naughty or nice.” I was concerned that my list of “naughty” deeds was going to end up longer than my list of “nice” acts. As faith and personal discipleship has become more central to my life, I have experienced the freedom of embracing a relationship with God based on love rather than on duty or obligation.

In the Gospel accounts, we find numerous instances where Jesus selflessly served those around him, regardless of their background or circumstances. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, comforted the lonely, and taught with wisdom and humility. His actions embodied a deep sense of love and care for all people, showing us the true essence of service. As we seek to follow in Jesus' footsteps during the summer months, let us consider practical ways in which we can extend our love and service in our communities. Here are some ideas to inspire our hearts and hands to serve:

  1. Offer your time to serve meals, organize donations, or provide support to those in need. Your presence and kindness can make a significant impact on individuals facing hardships.

  2. Gather friends, family, and neighbors to clean up parks, streets, or public spaces in your area. Taking care of the environment shows respect for our shared community and promotes a sense of pride and unity.

  3. Spend time with those who are sick and in need of companionship. A simple conversation, a listening ear, or a comforting presence can brighten someone's day and uplift their spirits.

  4. Get involved with organizations that are dedicated to serving marginalized populations, such as refugees, children in foster care, or individuals experiencing homelessness. Your donations, volunteer work, or advocacy can make a lasting difference in their lives.

By embodying the spirit of service and following Jesus' example of love and compassion, we can make a positive impact in our communities and inspire hope and healing in the world around us. Let us commit to spreading kindness, generosity, and empathy as we embrace the season of summer with open hearts and hands of service.

May we be guided by the light of faith and the power of love as we journey together in service to others. Thanks for all the ways you share your passions and example of Christ’s call to love and service.

Very truly,

Pastor Adam
