During this season of the Sundays following Epiphany (January 16) until Ash Wednesday (which falls on March 5 this year), we are talking about the ways that God’s light SHINES in this world. I’d especially like to highlight some of the ways that God’s light shines through all of you. Church music is a long-standing tradition. From chants and tunes sung by early Christians, through the Middle Ages, to grand and glorious Masses written by musical masters for majestic cathedrals, music has been an integral part of Christian worship.
Here at First Pres, we enjoy an abundance of musical talent and passion. Our Director of Music Ministry, Meredith Meersman, has been on staff here for more than three years. While Meredith provides music for services and special occasions, generally on the piano or pipe organ, we also have choirs that supplement and complement our musical offerings.
Our voice and bell choirs rehearse for one hour each week on Wednesday evenings. Our choir sings most Sundays from September through May, with a break during the summer. Our bell choir offers music for worship and special occasions, approximately quarterly. Our choirs are full of volunteers who enjoy music, appreciate the chance to share that passion with others, and are willing to show up and “make a joyful noise to the Lord together.” Our choirs are comprised of individuals with a variety of musical experience and backgrounds. If you’ve ever considered joining, NOW would be a great time to give it a try.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Meredith Meersman and she can help you out. We are blessed with beautiful music here at First Pres, and making music together is a tremendous gift. If you have a chance, please thank the members of our choirs for sharing their abilities. All is sung and played to the glory of God. I look forward to worshipping God with you again soon.
Very truly,
Pastor Adam
