Let Your Light Shine – Thrive and Vision Bikes

We continue our focus, highlighting ways that Christ’s light is shining in and through the people and programs of First Presbyterian Church. While many in our congregation are familiar with the church’s long-standing partnership with Love INC of the Black Hills, it’s possible that you aren’t aware of Thrive. The Thrive Adventure Store is a program of Love Inc that runs a second-hand store for adventure gear, including sports equipment, camping supplies, and bicycles for children and transportation.

The bicycle aspect of Thrive is referred to as Vision Bikes. FPC member, Jim Books, provides leadership for the work of Thrive where staff and volunteers help repair bicycles, train individuals to maintain their own bicycles, and refurbish bicycles to get them back on the road. If you (or anyone you know is need of a bicycle), Thrive is a great place to start. In addition to the work of fixing these machines, the volunteers at Thrive come alongside members of our community and provide encouragement, support, and discipline. If you have an interest in any aspect of this work, don’t hesitate to reach out and get involved.

With newly repaired bicycles piling up, another effort of Thrive is to get the bikes “back on the road.” This year, First Pres worked together with Jordan Schneider, Thrives’s Retail Ministry Coordinator, to support a Christmas Foster Kid Bike Giveaway. From these efforts, 23 foster children in our community found shiny bicycles standing next to the tree on Christmas morning. However, the goal of the effort was to distribute 75 bikes and foster families in our community have been informed that there are bikes available to them. Writing to our congregation, Jordan says, “thank you for your partnership in this Awesome Ministry and we hope many more children can be blessed through this!”

“Shine, Jesus, Shine.” Amen, and I’ll see you soon.

Very truly,

Pastor Adam
